Takahashi was the master chef at Khaleej Palace hotel in Dubai. His amazing success led to opening his own restaurant with Raffles Dubai to launch the concept TOMO.

Tomo is an authentic Japanese restaurant promoting Japanese culture and food in the Middle East. Tomo serving staff were mostly Japanese and very nice and friendly. They always guided us to our table.

Tomo restaurant is circled the all-glass restaurant and to reach a window table à deux, you drift past the sushi counter, shabu shabu tables, the traditional Japanese sunken seats and many a private dining room. The decor is austere and rather formal with Japanese folk music at play, but the glistening 360 degree views of Dubai by night help create a little more ambience.

The large selection of dishes in the menu, sushis, makis, teriyaki... the list goes on.

Dubai Food Code: new rules to ensure produce is properly stored prepared and served

A new Food Code clearly spells out new rules to ensure that all foods consumed within the emirate have been properly stored, handled, prepared and served.

According to Dubai Municipality, there were 13,000 food establishments including 3,000 restaurants and 480 hotels, in 2012 as well a long list of other food handling entities such as cafeterias, fast-food outlets, import and export firms and food transport firms.

More than eight million tonnes of food items were imported to Dubai last year from 180 foreign countries.

““The Food Code is designed to assist the persons in charge (PiCs) at food establishments to understand their obligations and to carry out operations as per the requirement.”

“Each code has a technical justification so that [food handlers] know the importance of adhering to it. The code is mandatory and has been issued in simple terms, so there should be no excuses for people not to adhere to it,” Sharif said.
